Following viral binding and entry, SARS-CoV-2 releases genomic RNA into the host cell which is translated into the pp1a and pp1ab polyproteins. PLpro and Mpro proteases then cleave these polyproteins to produce non-structural proteins such as the RNA Polymerases RdRp and helicase, which are involved in the transcription and replication of the virus.
