Calcium signaling research tools - low cost, high quality

calcium signaling research tools

Calcium (Ca2+) ions regulate processes such as cell motility, gene transcription, muscle contraction, and exocytosis. Numerous proteins are modulated directly or indirectly by calcium including kinases and phosphatases, transcription factors and the ubiquitous calcium-binding protein calmodulin (CaM). Calcium signaling also has essential roles in the development of the nervous system from neural induction to the proliferation, migration, and differentiation of neural cells. Stimulation of cells can produce calcium signals by initiating entry of Ca2+ ions across the plasma membrane or releasing them from intracellular stores. Activation of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), for example, leads to generation of the second messenger inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3), which releases calcium from the endoplasmic reticulum. Alternatively, neurotransmitter stimulation of neurons can cause calcium to enter cells through voltage gated calcium channels in the plasma membrane.

Potential sites for pharmacological manipulation of calcium signalling therefore include: voltage gated and ligand gated ion channels, the ryanodine and IP3 receptor, Na+/Ca2+ exchangers in the plasma and mitochondrial membranes, and Ca2+ATPase in the plasma membrane.

As a specialist supplier of affordable calcium signaling research tools, Hello Bio has introduced a range of low cost modulators of calcium signaling processes - at prices up to 50% less than other suppliers. Our range includes essential tools such as SERCA inhibitors thapsigargin, and cyclopiazonic acid, CaM kinase II inhibitor KN62, ryanodine and selective reverse mode Na+/Ca2+ exchange inhibitor KB-R7943 mesylate. The high affinity and cell permeable Ca2+ sensitive fluorescent indicator FURA-2 AM is also now available at great low prices.
