Stem cells are unspecialized cells that are capable of self-renewal through mitotic cell division. They may be induced to form more specialized cells by a process termed cellular differentiation.The main types of stems cells are embryonic stem cells (ESCs) found in blastocysts; adult (or somatic) stem cells, found in adult tissues, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and cancer stem cells (CSCs).
