GABA uptake & transport
GABA transport is mediated by a family of proteins known as GABA transporters, or GATs. GABA transporters are sodium- and chloride-dependent members of the Solute Carrier Family 6 (SLC6). The GAT subtypes are GAT1 (SLC6A1), GAT2 (SLC6A13), and GAT3 (SLC6A11). Within the same family are betaine transporter, BGT1 (SLC6A12), taurine transporter, TauT (SLC6A6) and creatine transporter, CT1 (SLC6A8).
