NEURO-2025: Empowering the Next Generation of Neuroscientists

Plans are underway for a 6th annual international neuroscience event in Tbilisi, Georgia, later this year. The NEURO-2025 Conference will bring together medical students, PhD candidates, doctors, neurologists, and neuroscientists for two days of talks, workshops, and exciting networking opportunities.

Organized by NeuroGeorgia and supported by both student and academic panels, the event promises to offer a dynamic platform for scientific exchange, collaboration, and mentorship in all areas of neuroscience.

We spoke to final-year medical student Atif Khatib, a member of the organizing team, to find out more about the conference, the confirmed speakers, and why events like this are so valuable for early career neuroscientists.

Hi Atif! Please can you tell us a little about your background as a scientist?

Hello! I am Atif Khatib and I am a medical doctorate student at the Tbilisi State Medical University. I'm also working as a Sponsorship marketing team member for NeuroGeorgia and am on the student panel.

What is the NEURO-2025 Conference, and who is the event aimed at?

NEURO-2025 is an annual conference held each year in Tbilisi, Georgia. This year’s event will be a two-day conference featuring high-profile guest speakers and a variety of engaging sessions, followed by hands-on workshops. The conference is designed for medical students, PhD candidates, doctors, neurologists, and neuroscientists from both local and international communities.

What is your personal involvement in the event?

I am one of the few student members who are privileged and honored to work for this organization. I am currently in my last year of medical school and I got this opportunity via a senior. I was inspired to join because I was looking for a good opportunity to get experience in healthcare and research. So far, this has helped me a lot to build connections, take on roles and find mentors in research fields.

What will the event offer for in-person attendees?

The event will offer multiple benefits:

  • Speakers on an international level

  • Hands-on workshops

  • CPD points

  • CASRP certification

  • Networking

  • Research opportunities

  • Opportunity for presenting abstracts

  • Publishing papers in Pub-Med indexed journals

  • Providing travel awards for PhD students, Postdoctoral Fellows and early-career researchers

Are you accepting abstract submissions, and if so, what topics or themes would be of most interest?

Yes, we are! We accept all abstracts related to neuroscience and the deadline for submission is 30th September 2025. The three main themes this year are:

  • Decoding the Diseased Brain: Neurochemical Pathways, Early Markers, and Precision Diagnostics

  • Brain Circuitry and Cognition: From Computational Models to Therapeutic Innovation

  • Converging Neurotechnologies: Restoring Function and Re‑Engineering Brain Health

We are also in collaboration with the journal - Advances in Clinical and Experimental Medicine. This helps us publish papers that are submitted to the conference after review.

Why are events like this so important for early career neuroscientists?

Events like NEURO‑2025 are invaluable for early-career neuroscientists because they offer exposure to cutting-edge research, foster critical thinking and provide opportunities to present work, gaining visibility and feedback. Networking with global experts and peers can lead to collaborations, mentorships and future job or PhD opportunities. These conferences also help young scientists stay updated on trends, technologies, and funding priorities in neuroscience. Participating in workshops or panel discussions sharpens both scientific and professional skills.

What networking opportunities will be available for attendees?

Since we have a lot of international speakers, students will have a lot of exposure. Many of these professors are also mentors for research programs and this has helped students establish connections and publish papers.

Which of the confirmed guest speakers are you most excited to see?

Personally, I am most excited for Dr. Indranath Chatterjee of the Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, and Dr. Alejandra Guerrero Barragan, a neurologist and Senior Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health. You can find a full list of the confirmed speakers here: https://neuroscience.edu.ge/neuro-2025/speakers/

When and where is the event taking place this year?

It’s taking place at the Tbilisi State University Conference Center in Tbilisi, Georgia on 29-30 November, 2025.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about the event?

NEURO-25 offers many dynamic platforms for scientific exchange like travel awards for Ph.D. students and early-career researchers, prestigious Best Oral and Poster Presentation Awards, the distinguished Tipu Aziz Awards, and opportunities for publication in leading journals.
