In this month’s technical spotlight, we’re sharing one of your most-asked questions about our PPDA (HB0531), a popular NMDA receptor antagonist commonly used in neuroscience and chemogenetics research.
★ Your Top Technical Question
“Our lab uses Hello Bio’s PPDA and we dissolve it in DMSO. What temperature should we store the resulting solution at?”
Great question! Our general guidance for storage of solutions is:
- Prepare and use solutions on the same day where possible
- If stock solutions are needed in advance, aliquot into tightly sealed vials and store at -20°C
- Solutions can generally be used for up to one month
- Before use, allow to equilibrate to room temperature for one hour and check for precipitation
What is PPDA Used For?
PPDA is a potent and selective antagonist of the GluN2C and GluN2D subunits of the NMDA receptor. It is widely used in neuropharmacology and neuroscience research to investigate synaptic transmission, plasticity, and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms. It is especially valuable in studies on excitotoxicity, neuroprotection, and disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.
