Introducing Magnified: a science art exhibition

We’ve blogged before about how much we love it when science inspires art, which is why we’re delighted to announce that Hello Bio will be sponsoring an unusual and exciting event across the globe in Australia.

Magnified: A Science Art Exhibition is being organised by the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI), in association with the School of Arts, English and Media at the University of Wollongong, Australia.

Stunning scientific images

The exhibition will feature more than 50 stunning images of the work of researchers and students at IHMRI, UOW and the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD).

The images truly capture the beauty of science, and here at Hello Bio we think they’re breathtaking!

All images featured in the exhibition will be on sale to both fellow scientists and the general public, with all proceeds going towards Motor Neuron Disease (MND) research at IHMRI, in honour of Associate Professor Justin Yerbury.

Yerbury was diagnosed with MND in 2016, after losing his uncle, cousin, and younger sister to the disease. Since then, remarkably, he has co-authored fifteen scientific papers, guided two PhD students to graduation, supervised several others, and been awarded the MND Australia Betty Laidlaw Prize for excellence in research.

Despite the deterioration in his condition over the last two years, he continues to work to find a cure. The hope is that this inaugural exhibition will continue for years to come in order to support other vital research streams and incoming young researchers at IHMRI.

So, if you’re lucky enough to be in Australia and nearby in July (and we wish we were!), the exhibition opening hours are below. If you won’t be, we’ll be showcasing a selection on our blog.
