AMPA receptors are members of the ionotropic class of glutamate receptors and consist of GluA1 (formerly GluR1), GluA2 (formerly GluR2), GluA3 (formerly GluR3) and GluA4 (formerly GluR4) subunits.They assemble as homomers or heteromers to form functional AMPA receptors.
