Cell permeable AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activator. Down-regulates insulin receptor expression. Promotes differentiation and mineralization of MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cells. Also promotes osteogenic differentiation of mensenchymal stem cells and induces astroglial differentiation in neural stem cells. Additionaly induces expression of several key regulators of pulripotency in somatic cells.
