"Dr. Yi-Shuian Huang is a lady of utmost commitment, passion, and energy. Her dedication to fostering an atmosphere of growth and learning in the lab is truly commendable. Her abilities extend beyond technical expertise, it is a dedication to mentorship, support, and inculcating a sense of belonging and community in the lab. Anyone who meets her will appreciate her for her wisdom, hard work, and compassion. As a PhD student, I found her always welcoming and warm enough to address all my issues be it at the professional or personal level. As an international student, I faced issues in adapting to a foreign land, but I found my mentor and guide was always to guide me. She did not hesitate to lend me a helping hand when I was ill and needed surgery. She helped me with all the documentation, language was a barrier for me since my Mandarin is not good.

Her unwavering determination and resilience in the face of challenges have always inspired me to push my boundaries. Apart from achieving scientific excellence, she also believes in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, which is an inspiration for the entire lab. She has served in many academic positions including being the coordinator for the International Graduate Program in Molecular Medicine, President of the Taiwan Society for Neuroscience. and many more. She is now the Neuroscience Division Chief. Despite being busy, I always found her welcoming and approachable. She spends enough time in the lab so that she is available to us at any time, both for academic and personal issues. Her energy and passion are certainly infectious. She actively participates and spends time with us in games during lab retreats. She has helped me and many more to not only develop professionally but also to develop overall as a human being at different stages of life. She always tries to push us to grab opportunities to learn and grow. Her willingness to share knowledge makes her a true role model. She has always been a genuine source of inspiration in my life and I would like to nominate her for the "lab hero" grant. I believe she has created an impact not only on the lab members but also on all who have had the opportunity to work alongside her."
