"Martina is a cardiovascular researcher whose competence and attitude make her the perfect candidate for the Lab Heroes Award.

Martina is incredibly experienced and competent in vascular biology and metabolism, and she constantly delivers high-quality work to advance these research fields. Even more important, she likes to share her knowledge and expertise with the other members of the lab. Indeed, although she is very busy working on multiple projects, she is always available to help other people, and she goes the extra mile to ensure their colleagues and students can succeed.

Martina truly believes in the importance of a supportive research culture where people share their strengths to thrive together. Recently, she created a support group for women planning to apply for research fellowships so that we could support each other during the application process, prioritising teamwork over competition. She therefore set up a group chat where we could share useful opportunities and inspiring posts to keep our motivation going. She also organised meetings where people could share their ideas, progress, and struggles and get feedback on their applications.

Thanks to her effort in creating a positive and collaborative environment, the lab is a very good place to work and thrive together."

"Martina is an outstanding mentor for me as a PhD student. She works very hard on her projects, but she always finds time to teach and support others. She is proactive, focused and motivated. I am very happy to be able to work in the same group as her."

"Martina is an incredibly talented scientist. Her arrival in our lab has transformed my PhD experience. Her enthusiasm, knowledge, expertise, guidance and support have been truly inspiring. Martina gives so much of her time to others to discuss ideas, plan experiments and teach while juggling so many projects of her own. She is highly driven and is a pleasure to work with her. Martina is my lab hero :)"
