Renesa Tarannum is nominated in the Lab Heroes Awards - TM
Renesa Tarannum, Farris Lab, Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, United States
Humorous, Supportive, Inquisitive
"Renesa is a vibrant and helpful presence in our lab. She not only completes exceptional research on hippocampal RNA localization, but even with her busy schedule she makes the lab feel more like a family. She is always there to help with experiments no matter how busy she is, and she creates a happy and uplifting atmosphere in our lab always bringing a smile to everyone's face. She is also an amazing teacher, instructing and inspiring undergraduates who hope to follow in her footsteps getting their MD and PhD. She is all around an amazing scientist with an engaging and curious mind and it is a genuine pleasure to work alongside her!"
Nominated by Lucy Turner, Farris Lab, Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, United States
Supportive, Inspiring, Friend
"In over three years that I have known her, Renesa has been one of my biggest supporters for my careers and otherwise. I first met her while we were both struggling through some of our lab training. I got to experience her encouraging personality for the first time then. From then on, this encouraging spirit never changed whether we were stuck running an experiment late on a Friday night, going for lunch in the middle of the day on a Tuesday afternoon, or playing tennis over the weekend. I had the opportunity to watch her start her Ph.D. career, take her candidacy exam, and grow into one of the most impressive people I have met. The growth that I have had the honor to witness was one of the reason that led me to pursue my Ph.D. To say that I look up to her would be an understatement. It is my personal belief that being a lab hero is not restricted to the work inside the lab. While Renesa has always been encouraging and helpful with my lab work, it is important to say that the research experience is more complicated than the experiments. If I needed a random life advice, encouragement, or just to vent. She is the person that comes to mind when I need a minute. She is not only what I now call "lab bestie," but a true friend through and through."
