"Prof. Patrícia Schuck, or Pati, for those of us lucky enough to call her a friend and a mentor, has been a huge supporter of my career development. She pushes me to try new things, apply for grants, and genuinely believes in supporting people in whatever way she can, so that they reach their goals. And if she personally cannot help you, she will tell you who can. Pati is also a dedicated researcher in the field of rare diseases, and is tireless in her efforts to make information around these diseases more accessible to the lay public. She also participates in initiatives in science communication, and is very outspoken in the scientific community in matters of inclusion. In this regard, when her lab went into renovations, she specifically requested that all facilities be wheelchair accessible; she also makes an intentional effort to support women in science. More so, Pati does all of this in the kindest way, she is so polite and thoughtful with her words, she is just a lovely person to work with. For all these reasons, and all the wonderful work she does daily for our lab, she is my Lab Hero."

Throughout my undergraduate studies, I was with her during my scientific initiation and during my master's, and it won't be any different during my doctorate. I'll continue to be with her, because she's always there to give us a friendly hug and support when everything seems to be going wrong, and even when things do go wrong, she helps us to look through different eyes and not give up!
