Uloma Elvis-Offiah is nominated in the Lab Heroes Awards - TM
Uloma Elvis-Offiah, Science Laboratory Technology, University of Benin, Nigeria
"The first time I met Mrs. Elvis was in 2017. She was the course adviser for my Second level at the department of Science Laboratory Technology. Her personal interest in my coursemates and me was intriguing. It was more than fulfilling her job duties for her. I remember she patiently went through my grades for the session and advised me to do better. She told me that I could definitely get first-class honors and that she saw a lot of potential in me. That meant a lot to me, Nigeria is still trying to accept the female gender as equal or as valuable as the male. We are told to settle for mediocracy but Mrs. Elvis doesn’t buy that. She was extra and wanted me and other girls to be. She volunteered to take extra lessons for my other coursemates and me. I wanted to excel in my academic life and she was part of the reason. In 2021, I graduated with a first-class degree from the University of Benin as the best graduating student in my department. She was right; I could be extra. Today, I am completely grateful to her. She is my hero. I love her zeal for knowledge, dedication to work, and high level of professionalism. Yes, she is more than just a motivational speaker, she is highly intelligent. As a lab manager in the physiological laboratory, she is truly superb. The ease with which she breaks down complex research principles still amazes me today. She could easily blend theoretical matters into clear practicals. It’s no wonder that she has tens of publications in reputable journals in her name. I consider her the best in her field. Thus, I am glad to nominate her for the Lab Heroes Awards 2022."
