Patricia Mariscal Ramírez, Neuropsychopharmacology Group/Berrocoso Lab, University of Cadiz, Spain

"When asking Patricia, more commonly referred to as Patri, whether or not I can fill this out on her behalf, she said only if I do not spend too much of my time on it. This is the definition of Patri. She has such a large heart and always thinks of others first. When I joined the lab early this year, she was the first to run up to me and welcome me and has helped me really to feel integrated. Whenever I or anyone has a question she will completely drop what she is doing to help others. Besides her selfless qualities, she also serves as the duct tape holding the lab together. She knows every fact about the equipment, administration personnel, and companies to order form. She is also extremely well-versed in our field and is always able to cite relevant papers when we get weird results. I honestly don't think I would have survived my first six months if she was not there always helping me both emotionally, scientifically, and physically. Patri really deserves this award more than anyone and I don't think a better recipient exists."

Nominated by Cassandra Deichsel, Neuropsychopharmacology Group/Berrocoso Lab, University of Cadiz, Spain

Nominated by Lidia Bravo, University of Cádiz, España

"Even though she is a PhD Student, she is the lab's wildcard. She is able to handle all of the techniques that our lab carries out (a 17-member lab does a lot of different techniques), she is humble and helps everyone in the lab without expecting anything back."

Nominated by Alejandro Torrillas de la Cal, University of Cadiz, España

"Patri should win because she is the one person you can go to for anything. She is very professional, but also patient, kind, fun, warm and above all, an excellent colleague. Since I first started working in the lab, she has been one of the people I look up to. What I admire most about her is that she always takes time for everyone, even when she is quite busy herself. She has also an astonishing knowledge of everything, and if there is anything she does not know, she has the humility to admit it. She is a wonderful researcher who pays attention to every detail. Furthermore, she is very enthusiastic about science, always looking for things that could improve the quality of our research and giving this information to all of us so that we can improve as well. I sincerely believe that Patri deserves this award, not only for who she is, but because without her, the lab wouldn't be the same. As a team, we can be good scientists, but it is thanks to her that our team also improves on a day-to-day basis. And having someone on your team who makes you want to be a better scientist every day is not something that often exists."

Nominated by Patricia Nevado Ballmann, University of Cádiz, Spain
