Dillon Popat is nominated in the Lab Heroes Awards - TM
Dillon Popat, Centre for Endocrinology, William Harvey Research Institute, UK
"Dillon is an incredibly hard-working PhD student who has worked hard to develop new methods and protocols for our lab and department. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge with young scientists having taken on numerous students at different stages of their development from high school, to undergraduate and master’s level. Dillon also believes in sharing technical expertise with others and insuring the highest level of reproducibility of his data. He shares his techniques with the wider department and is open to using new methods for confirming his findings in different ways and encourages healthy scientific discussion to produce robust data. Dillon has also made himself a member of the QMUL scientific community by representing the department as a post-graduate representative where he helps organise PhD symposia to foster positive communication between departments. He has also worked to communicate the value of science to the local community through participation at the QMUL Festival of Communities where he explained the value of maintaining lifelong health to the public and covered himself in slime! He has made a very positive addition to the department and always strives to make it a more positive open environment. He is the only person who understood the new audiovisual set up in the seminar room and always made himself available to help at various meetings (even when he is off site) such is his dedication to the department. Dillon makes sure new people are welcome and is very encouraging to new students whilst being an excellent PhD student generating high quality data. He is a role model PhD student and it has been a privilege supervising him."
