"Daniel is a huge source of inspiration and contributes both personally and scientifically to the lab. He was my master thesis supervisor during the pandemic and with all the challenges it involved, he made my project fun and educational in all the ways I could wish for. Daniel is helping anyone in need in the lab and you only have to drop by his office, thinking you have a five-minute question that easily turns into an hour of interesting discussions. Even days when he is extremely busy, he still manages to take some time and dig into your problem. We are all very lucky to have him around us with the competence and passion for research he brings. Daniel is a Post Doc who also lectures in some of the undergrad courses, and you can really tell that the students appreciate him in the lecture halls as much as we do in the lab. I started my PhD in a different area of applied microbiology than what Daniel is working with, and he still doesn’t hesitate to try to understand what problems I have encountered and always comes up with suggestions of how I can continue my work. I think a lot of people at TMB were worried about how the lab would be without him, but luckily for us, he will stay a bit longer! Daniel is working with metabolic engineering of non-conventional yeast for bioplastic production as well as transcriptomics and bioinformatics in a systems biology manner and puts a lot of effort into what he is doing. He is also a big part of the fun activities outside of the lab and cares about everyone feeling welcomed both inside and outside of the lab. When I asked him about the picture for the nomination, he looked surprised, not expecting anything back for all the work and effort he puts into other projects than his own and I think that’s very telling of who Daniel is as a person. Receiving the lab hero award would be a way of thanking Daniel for everything he is doing right in the lab!"

"Daniel is a constant source of knowledge and inspiration. He is always willing to help, no matter if your topic is related to his own or not really, he takes the time (which he often does not necessarily have) and gives you new ideas and perspectives. Our department would definitely not be the same without him!"

Nominated by Raquel Perruca Foncillas, Lund University, Sweden

"Daniel is always supportive and spreads whimsical joy to everyone in the department."

"Regardless of the situation, Daniel always puts a great effort into being pedagogical, which is something I think is very important and often overlooked. In discussions, Daniel makes an effort to make sure that everyone understands and is included in a way that encourages curiosity and opens up for everyone to participate. He is an incredible source of information and fun lunch break conversations, and we are incredibly lucky to have him at our division."

Nominated by Matilda Johansson, Division of Applied Microbiology, Lund University, Sweden

"Daniel is someone, I can go to whenever I am stuck on an experiment and he always makes time for troubleshooting and trimming the fat. He helps me identify what is important from a publication perspective. He also provides a whimsical joy and always adds a lot of humor to our breaks."

Nominated by Krishnan Sreenivas, Division of Applied Microbiology, Lund University, Sweden

"Daniel is a big source of wisdom and inspiration to everyone at our department. He is great at making everyone feel seen and heard at meetings, in the lunch room or in the lab. He always has time to chat about your project and you always leave the chat full of new ideas and perspectives. I don't know what we would do without him!"
