"Becoming the only African recipient of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women In Science International Rising Talent Award in 2019, and a recipient of many other grants at a very young age, it is doubtless that Dr. Priscilla Mante has seen great success as a researcher. Her dissatisfaction for personal development only is what has motivated her to make great impact in the lives of her mentees, most especially her lab.

As the assigned supervisor of about 20 undergraduate students per year, she allows each student to pick a research topic in their own areas of interest and fine tunes their interest to bring out the feasibility in it. She holds individual meetings with her students, provides the necessary resources that each of them needs to complete their project and is physically present to guide and assist each of them.

Priscilla is highly invested in the academic growth of her students and lab members. She organizes workshops to teach graduate students how to write and submit manuscripts . She is one of the few researchers in the university who collaborate with their students to write research articles just so they can have a better research experience should they decide to pursue research as a career .

Priscilla, well aware of Ghana’s high degree of resource constrain, circumvents this problem by sponsoring some of her students each year to further their research work in more resourced labs beyond Ghana that she collaborated with during summer vacations. This exposure has played a vital role in piquing the interest of her lab members in research and has inspired more novel ideas.

The Mantelab has seen a high level of productivity because of Priscilla’s natural urge to sacrifice time, efforts, and resources. The timely organization of each project and her readiness to be consulted with has contributed immensely to the early completion of even the most tedious and cumbersome tasks. Priscilla’s work ethics have greatly inspired my pursuit for a research career in neuropharmacology.I am blessed to have her as a mentor, and there is no other person I would think of as my lab hero."
