Biological description

Widely-used eukaryotic protein synthesis inhibitor. Blocks the elongation phase of translation by binding to the E-site of the 60S ribosomal subunit to block eEF2-mediated tRNA translocation.

Induces apoptosis in various cells but can also delay or inhibit apoptosis.

Also inhibits FKBP12 and shows potent antifungal and anti-mold activity.
