"Carley brought her abilities, intellect, aptitude, and enthusiasm to the lab every day. Even as the youngest member of our team (undergraduate junior technician), she read published literature to redirect experiments in the lab. She guided a team of 6 undergraduate researchers to behaviorally phenotype mice, and helped several of them adjust to university life. She did all this while simultaneously completing her own honor's thesis, ordering supplies and balancing accounting, and navigating inspections, repair of equipment, rewrite of animal protocols, and construction of new testing chambers. Carley noticed small details, and performed every task with a personal touch. Carley also managed our mouse facility, which houses more than 300 mice of various types. During work outings, Carley was always the first person to scale a wall, the first to try something new, and the first to swing from a rope out over a spring. This is an apt metaphor for her fearless approach to science- learning as she went, in with both feet!

Carley was our lab manager for nearly two years. She began her own journey as a graduate student this fall, and her impact on our lab is still evident today. We’ve no doubt that she will emerge as a leader among her peers, and will have a very fruitful career in science."
